Messaging App Whatsapp Stops Extending Support To A Few Phones In 2020

While all of us are on a high with the year 2020 set in, a piece of important news is doing the rounds. The famous messaging app WhatsApp stops extending support to a few smartphones in the year 2020, a recent announcement suggests. This is kind of a setback for the Indian users as it is the most famous and the most used messaging app in India.

As mentioned on the Blog page of WhatsApp, the Facebook-owned messaging app, in simpler words, will stop working on several iOS and Android phones, coming February 2020. In fact, the company has already stopped lending support to the Windows phone operating system like Nokia Lumia and others.

Why is Whatsapp taking such a step?

This is the first query that pop-ups our mind. So, let’s hear their story –

The reason quoted by the messaging app suggests that the older version of these phones wouldn’t be able to support a lot of new features the messaging app plans to launch in the coming year. The strategy is to remain focused on the famous mobile platforms being used by most of the customers and offer more and more services and a better experience to them and stop developing for the older platforms.

Though WhatsApp will not instantly stop working on these older versions, these phones will not receive any updates from the messaging app, gradually services coming to an end.

Which all Operating Systems will not be able to support Whatsapp from next year?

The next important question is who all will suffer the most?

The users with the following OS versions wouldn’t be able to use their services –

  • Android versions 2.3.7 and older
  • iOS 8 and older
  • All Windows OS phones from 31 December 2019

Which all Operating Systems would Whatsapp support and recommend users to?

Let’s know who all are safe and would be able to use the latest features of the messaging app –

  • Android running OS 4.0.3+
  • iPhone running iOS 9+
  • Select phones running KaiOS 2.5.1+, including JioPhone and Jio Phone 2

So, get ready for the change. If you want to continue using the Whatsapp services and unfortunately own a phone with an older OS version, it’s time for you to invest in a new phone.
